The content of the module includes, among other things,

  • the analysis and structuring of multi-criteria decision-making situations,
  • the conceptual modelling of information, data and decisions,
  • methods of decision-making taking into account uncertainty, probabilities and individual behaviour,
  • biases and heuristics in decision-making, and
  • the design of information systems for decision support, in particular the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced data analytics.

Qualification objectives

After successfully completing the module, students will be able to analyse and model complex decision-making situations taking into account multiple objectives, alternatives and decision-makers. They will be able to apply methods of decision-making while incorporating uncertainty, probabilities and the behaviour of decision-makers, in particular behavioural economic and algorithmic aspects. Students will be able to assess the potential use of information systems and automated decisions, for example through AI.

Teaching formats

The teaching formats of the module are

  • Lecture: Design of Decision Systems (2 weekly teaching hours),
  • Tutorial: Design of Decision Systems (1 weekly teaching hour).

Language

The courses may be held in either German or English.

In the examination, the questions will be set in English. Students may complete the examination assessment in either German or English.
