"Travelling ennobles the mind and clears away all our prejudices."
Oscar Wilde (1854-1900)
A semester abroad always means a high degree of initiative and commitment for the students who are drawn to go abroad. Nevertheless, we would like to put together some key information for you here:
You will find initial informationen about your planned semester abroad directly here. If you find a partner university that appeals to you, the information path is divided as follows:
1. European universities (via Erasmus):
If you are particularly interested in European universities, continue reading on the faculty's Erasmus page. Please inform yourself thoroughly about the application procedure there (FAQs, application form, etc.) You will also find the homepages of the respective host universities on the Europe map, where you are welcome to obtain further information.
2. Non-Erasmus universities:
If you find that other universities have exciting event programmes that match your Master's programme, you can of course also aim for a stay abroad there. In this case, please clarify the following aspects first:
- Creditability of work done abroad with the examination board
- Scope of existing cooperations of the TU Chemnitz, because not every cooperation includes economics or student exchange
- Eligibility of your exchange semester
The IUZ will advise you on the last two points. If certain universities that belong to the partners of the TU Chemnitz are of interest to several students, the IUZ asks for collected requests for exchange opportunities.
In general, universities with which Chemnitz University of Technology does not have partnerships have to pay tuition fees. Please also inform yourself about possible fees for applications to these universities.
In the case of particularly promising universities, you are also welcome to contact the Erasmus coordinators of our faculty to explain the possibilities of expanding cooperation in the European area. For cooperation extensions outside Europe, please contact Prof. Gesmann-Nuissl (Reichenhainer Straße, Room 526). Please clarify such enquiries first with the two contact persons mentioned. Participation of the IUZ will then be initiated by the Faculty of Economic Sciences.
As part of the study abroad programme, at least 20 credits must be earned in the field of management, preferably "International Management", "Human Resource Management (HRM)", "Leadership" and "Organization Theory".
When choosing a place to study, it should be noted that the university has appropriate offers.
All management-related courses, preferably at Master's level, are eligible for recognition, whereby
- courses in the above-mentioned areas can be applied for and recognised directly on the respective modules and
- courses that are not directly attributable must be submitted for general recognition of the credit points earned and will also be recognised.
In the first case, the grades are converted and added to the module grade. Make sure that the credits earned abroad are correctly assigned to the analogous modules or courses in the MOS degree programme.
In the second case, the course is accounted for separately and only the credit points are charged, provided that the student passes.
An overview of the grades awarded in the course must be brought along for conversion.
BA courses designed for "skill formation", e.g. trainings, will not be recognised.
If there are any uncertainties, the person responsible for the module in the MOS degree programme can be contacted by email in advance or on site after knowing the courses actually taken. The recognition of study achievements, which were completed within the framework of an Erasmus+ study abroad, takes place via the IUZ. Students who did not spend a semester abroad via the Erasmus+ program are recognized using the MOS recognition form. Please fill this out and send it with your transcript of records to anja.ernst@wiwi.tu-chemnitz.de.
