Interdisciplinary Research on Humans and Technology

Researchers from six departments join their expertise in the newly founded Center for Sensing and Cognition

On January 19th, the Center for Sensing and Cognition (CeSeCo) was established at the Faculty of Sciences at Chemnitz University of Technology. The center gathers expertise on research topics in sensing and cognition from a human as well as from a technological perspective.

As psychologist and professor of physics, the chairwoman of the newly-elected steering committee, Prof. Alexandra Bendixen, is fully aware of the high value of interdisciplinary collaboration: “I am extremely happy that we could bring together colleagues from a large variety of disciplines, including the faculties of the Natural Sciences, of Behavioural and Social Sciences, of Computer Science, of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, of Mechanical Engineering, and of the Humanities. The new center provides a framework for scientific exchange and will foster joint high-profile projects among the participating research groups.”

In establishing the center, Chemnitz University of Technology further strengthens its focus areas “Humans and Technology” as well as “Materials and Smart Systems”. The center provides excellent opportunities for students to work in fundamental or application-driven research projects. This will be a further asset for the "Human Factors" Master’s degree program, which will commence in fall 2018, and for the “Sensors and Cognitive Psychology” Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs, which already enjoy high popularity.
