MAMA-MEA: Mass Manufacture of MEAs
Completed Research Project

Mass Manufacture of MEAs Using High Deposition Processes

Runtime: 01.01.2018 - 30.06.2021
Förderung: 3.1 Mio. €

Project partner
Technische Universität Chemnitz (Coordinator - ALF, deposition - DPI)
Università degli studi die Modena e Reggio Emilia
Fraunhofer-Institut für Elektronische Nanosysteme
Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells Ltd
System Ceramics S.R.L.
INEA d.o.o.
Nedstack Fuel Cell Technology B.V.

Project objectives:

  • Development of novel, continuous manufacturing process of catalyst coated membranes based on additive layer manufacturing
  • Identification, assessment and down-selection of mature deposition techniques already used in industries other than fuel cell production
  • Optimisation of the additive layer manufacturing process to enable step-change increase in manufacturing volume notably above the target of 50 MW/year while maintaining performance parity with commercially available parts
  • Increase in the competitiveness of the European fuell cell industry as a direct consequence of the project results
