Traction Mechanisms

Friction Test Benches for Circulating Traction Mechanism

Functional Principle

The traction mechanism, belt, chain etc. is driven at a speed up to 2 m/s by a frequency-controlled electric motor. A frictional counterpart loaded with defined weights slides on the traction mechanism and is linked with a force sensor, by which the frictional force can be determined directly. If the counterpart is a slide rail, the traction mechanism is turned and driven on the supporting side. The friction temperature is measured with thermocouples, which are brought close to the contact surface by miniature bores. This principle of measuring the frictional coefficient between traction mechanisms and sliding rails is well-tried since years.

In conjunction with a measuring software, the test benches allow the recording of friction coefficient and temperature progression over several weeks. So friction and wear can be tested in long-term tests.

1-Track Cycle Test bench
  • Measuring principle: traction mechanism - plate, circulating traction mechanism
  • Measuring stations: 1
  • Sliding speed: up to 2 m/s
  • Normal force (mass): up to 200 N (20 kg)
  • Length of traction mechanism: 1.250±50 mm
  • Dimension of counterpart: 100…200 x 30…100 mm (length x width)
  • Test duration: no restrictions (mostly several weeks)
  • Ambient atmosphere: 23±5°C, 50±10% relative humidity
4-Track Cycle Test Bench
  • Measuring principle: traction mechanism - plate, circulating traction mechanism
  • Measuring stations: 4 (same sliding speed, force and sample can be different)
  • Sliding speed: up to 2 m/s
  • Normal force (mass): up to 200 N (20 kg)
  • Length of traction mechanism: 1.250±50 mm
  • Dimension of counterpart: 100…200 x 30…100 mm (meist mehrere Wochen)
  • Test duration: no restrictions (mostly several weeks)
  • Ambient atmosphere: 23±5°C, 50±10% relative humidity
