The Enlighten the Dark Aircraft Cabin project aims to make aircraft boarding more efficient and predictable by creating a digitally connected, passenger-centric cabin environment. The project combines real sensors (e.g., cameras, LiDAR) with a virtual 3D simulation and mixed reality (MR) interface to form a digital twin of the aircraft cabin. This hybrid system enables real-time monitoring and simulation of passenger movements during boarding. By linking sensor feedback with predictive machine learning models, the project seeks to accurately forecast boarding times and identify bottlenecks. These insights can help airlines and airports better manage turnaround operations, improving overall efficiency in the air traffic management (ATM) system. In essence, the project develops and tests a mixed-reality-supported cabin prototype that bridges physical sensor data, virtual simulations, and predictive analytics to optimize boarding processes and enhance the passenger experience.
