Research

Based upon many years of research in the field or circuit and system design, the chair gained an extensive knowledge about the design of application-specific circuits (ASICs). There exist special know-how and skills on the design and usage of PLD-circuits, field-programmable ASICs (FPGA) and mask-programmable ASICs (Gate-Array, Standard Cell). Therefore main fields of application are real-time processing, rapid prototyping in image processing and vibro-acoustic, simulator coupling and emulators.

Currently we are working on the following areas:

  • Research in logic and system design, FPGA-, PLD-, Gate-Array and circuit applications
  • High performance arithmetic for different usage (MPEG-Video Decoder, Image Compression, Graphic Controller)
  • Development of re-usable components, IPs (Intellectual Properties), design environment for re-use, <pplications
  • Specification of systems, formal methods for specification and verification
  • Using fuzzy-accelerators for vibro-acoustic detection and classification (noise analysis)
  • Development and usage of a universal modular system for real-time tasks and teaching
  • System design of heterogeneous micro and nano systems (in cooperation with the Chair of Microsystems and Precision Engineering and the Center for Microtechnologies)
  • Investigation and generation of data path components with high algorithmic capacity
  • Low Power Design
  • Monitoring systems in the field of fiber-reinforced plastics and health care devices
