New Appointment at the University
On 1 August 2019, a new professor was appointed by the university president – Prof. Dr. Christian Pentzold will lead the Professorship of Communication and Media Studies
The President of Chemnitz University of Technology, Prof. Dr. Gerd Strohmeier, appointed a new professor to the Faculty of Humanities at Chemnitz University of Technology on 1 August 2019.
Prof. Dr. Christian Pentzold will hold the Chair of Communication and Media Studies as of 1 August 2019. Pentzold’s research focuses include the public understanding of Big Data and the interplay between time, data and media. In addition, his work deals with the application of practical theories in the understanding of media and communication, and with this, the combining of qualitative and quantitative methods.
At Chemnitz University of Technology, Pentzold will set forth in the areas of human-machine communication and data journalism, among others.
About Prof. Dr. Christian Pentzold
Prof. Dr. Pentzold studied and conducted research at Chemnitz University of Technology, the University of Stirling and Oxford University, in the area of media communication, prior to becoming a Research Assistant at the Institute for Media Research at Chemnitz University of Technology. In 2013, Pentzold received his doctorate from Chemnitz University of Technology, and habilitation in 2017 at the University of Trier, with the topic of “Transmedia Discourses. Conditions, Analytical Framework, and Case Studies”. Since 2016, Pentzold has held the position of Junior Professor at the Center for Media, Communication and Information Research (ZeMKI) at the University of Bremen.
From 2012 to 2018, Pentzold was also an Associate Researcher at the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society in Berlin and broadened his research interests during stays in London and Jerusalem.
