Chemnitz provides students with cheap shared apartments
Before the beginning of new semester, a real estate site has compared university cities in Germany by rentals paid for hiring a shared apartment. Chemnitz is only slightly above the 200-euros-line
Right on time for the start of the winter semester 2014/2015, the website wg-suche.de has released a comparison of the shared apartment prices in 75 German university cities between the WG-Portal and ImmobilienScout24. The result as follows: Those, who look for the cheapest apartment to share with other students are on the right place in Chemnitz. With an average room rent of 204 euros, one lives in this Saxony’s university city by far with the most affordable rents. Thus, Chemnitz is positioned further away from the most expensive universities Munich and Frankfurt/Main, where one should pay between 521 and 418 euros for a shared apartment.
Generally, the dramatic differences in shared rental apartment costs show that to study in East German cities is much more favorable compared with the other parts of Germany. The calculated rental rates are based on the average monthly rent of each city for a 3-room apartment with a living space of 80 square meters.
