University Library Extends its Opening Hours

From October 1, 2026, the University Library of Chemnitz University of Technology opens from Monday to Saturday already at 8 am

Being a little earlier at the University Library in the morning? That will be possible by the beginning of winter term 2026/27 as the University Library (UL) will open its doors from Monday to Saturday already at 8 am from October 1, 2026 on. “In that way, we comply to a wish frequently expressed by our users,” Dr. Wolfgang Lambrecht, Deputy Director of the UL, explains. In addition, the extended opening hours also facilitate the event management as many events start already at 9 am for which will then be provided an appropriate lead time for organization and implementation.

The service hours, meaning the times, during that staff members of the University Library are at the desks, are remaining unaffected and will go on lasting from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 7 pm as well as from 9 am to noon on Saturday. This means that in the period from 8 am to 9 am, the users may – the same way like from 7 pm to 10 pm on weekdays and from noon to 10 pm on Saturdays – work at the UL as well as borrow and return media from the collections via the self-checkout stations and the return machine, but may not pay charges or asking for making changes at their user data. For those issues as well as for inquiries or requests, the users are asked to make use of the service hours.
