Aim

  • Reduction of friction losses in the motor
  • Reduction of fuel consumption, especially in urban traffic
  • Reduction of the process cost to make up for the additional effort for the rolling bearing
  • Integration of further functionalities, such as concentric camshafts or cylinder deactivation

Approach

Determining the dynamic strain on the camshaft

  • Development of an MKS model
  • Calculation of characteristcs of cam forces, torques and bending moment loads
  • Determination of the torques which are transmitted through the cams because of resonance vibrations of the camshaft
  • Calculation of the forces acting on the camshaft bearing
  • Determination of the maximum inclinations of the camshaft under the bearing

Durability of the bearing

  • Separate calculation of the damage on the rolling elements, the inner and the outer ring
  • Comparison with catalogue data

Design of the fits for the press-fit connection cam-shaft
