DGO Saxony district group meets at the WOT professorship

On 11 April 2024, the series of events organised by the DGO Saxony district group continued at Chemnitz University of Technology. With 22 participants, the lecture by Mr Höland, Managing Director of Spaleck Oberflächenveredlung GmbH in Greiz, Thuringia, was very well received.

The district group leader, Mrs Marion Regal, opened the event and introduced the speaker. Mr Höland's committed presentation on the subject of „Cr III – practical experience“ showed how the changeover from Cr VI to Cr III took place in just over a week, which customer requirements had to be met and which successes had already been achieved. However, Mr Höland also pointed out the remaining challenges associated with the galvanic deposition of this type of coating and the coating systems with this final layer. His pictures comparing the bath periphery required for the classic Cr VI process with that for Cr III generated an audible smile. Considerable additional equipment is required. In addition, the time required for bath maintenance and waste water treatment increases by an order of magnitude. The wide range of activities to achieve uniform chrome plating are remarkable and include a modified product carrier configuration, adapted complexing agents and other parameter adjustments. Overall, Mr Höland judged the changeover to be a success, although there is still potential to be exploited in terms of process stability. After a lively discussion, those present continued the technical discussions in a convivial get-together.

The next event of the DGO Saxony district group will take place on 23 May 2024 at Chemnitz University of Technology.
