Description

The finite element method is the most commonly used technique in engineering to compute the stresses, strains, eigenfrequencies and heat conduction (as well as other effects) within complex structures. Thus, the goal of this course is to impart the basic principles of the finite element method and to educate the students in applying commercial software.

Contents

  • Two-dimensional finite elements
  • Coordinate transformation
  • Numerical integration
  • Accuracy and convergence
  • Numerical solution procedures
  • Dynamic problems
  • Heat conduction

Requirements

  • Engineering mechanics
  • Valid user account in the computing center (URZ)

Exam

The following material is allowed to be used in the exam:
  • TUC Formulary for FEM I (script no. 114)
  • TUC Formulary for Engineering Mechanics (script no. 108)
  • Mathematical formulary
  • Pocket calculator (without wireless communication)
  • Dictionary (without wireless communication)
  • Watch (without wireless communication)
The usage of lectures notes is not allowed.
