Chemnitz University of Technology was the first university in Saxony which in 2006 received the certificate “Familiy-friendly University” awarded by the Hertie-Foundation. After a successful re-audit it was prolonged in 2009. This certificate proves that a university disposes of a familiy-friendly structure and spirit for the benefit of staff members as well as of students and doctoral students with children.
To these family-friendly conditions belong especially opportunities for childcare. For this reason TU Chemnitz maintains a cooperation agreement with the City of Chemnitz for the care for children aged between 8 weeks and 6 years of students and, where applicable, also of doctoral students and staff members in municipal daycare facilties for children. The opening hours are from Monday to Friday from 6 am to 6 pm resp. 7 pm.
The application for a place at a municipal daycare facility for children has to be made personally at the Amt für Jugend und Familie der Stadt Chemnitz. The following documents should be presented:
- birth certificate of the child
- identity card or passport
- registration certificate of the registration office of the City of Chemnitz
- authorization of the other person entitled to custody or negative test
The application for an independent daycare facility for children should be addressed directly to its director. For application for a place in a childcare institution, the City of Chemnitz has established a special Portal.
In addition to that TU Chemnitz offers numerous events corresponding to the needs of children and young people: starting with a “Kids University” which offers special lectures for kids between 7-12 years via the possibility for pupils to absolve a “Taster course” within the “Chemnitz University Week” to sports camps for children and adolescents aged between 3 -15 years.
