Topic

STADT:up is a research and development project consisting of 22 companies from the automotive and supplier industry as well as research institutions. Main aim is to develop concepts and pilot applications for continuous automated driving in urban areas. The total budget of the project is 62.8 million euro, of which 33.5 million euros are provided by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. The research at Chemnitz University of Technology is funded with around one million euro.

In the subproject "Human Factors" of STADT:up, the competences of the three TU Chemnitz professorships in the areas of psychology, ergonomics, and sensor data fusion are bundled to investigate comfortable automated driving in urban areas. By handing over the driving task to the automated vehicle, new comfort factors arise such as trust in automation, perceived safety, appropriateness of the driving style, or information about upcoming vehicle maneuvers. The research at TU Chemnitz focusses on detecting discomfort as early as possible and reduce it by providing information and adapting the automated driving style. Studies in the driving simulator as well as a test vehicle aim at finally achieving a pleasant automated driving experience in urban areas.
