Current Information

Aging is a process of adaptation, and throughout this process many body systems and structures are required to adapt its function under a condition of limited neuromuscular and cognitive resources. Tasks of daily life, such as walking or running, as well as fine motor control and recovery from postural instabilities become a challenge with aging, and the fall rate increases. Physical exercise is one of the main interventions to slow down these aging adaptations, and in addition to the physical fitness, manipulation of sensorimotor inputs is also a strategy to minimize the risk of fall. In his talk, Prof. Carpes will show some of the recent studies he performed, as well as other current research projects regarding acute effects of physical exercise and sensorimotor stimulation in elderly.
