Wide-Angled and Omnidirectional Stereo Vision

Stereo vision based sensor systems are a core technology to acquire RGB-D data for messurements of a 3D space in the context of different applications. This includes, for example, surveillance tasks in the interior, where a number of sensors work as a network to cover the complete area. The reduction of the number of sensors and, due to this, the complexity of the system and not least the systems price are important optimization parameters.

A perspective stereo vision system for interior surveillance (fig. 1), as it is usually used, can only cover a very limited area. A innovatively omnidirectional stereo vision system (fig. 2) can reduce the number of required sensor crucially.

Fig 3 shows a experimental setup, which provides in addition to the color information (fig 4) the depth map (fig 5).
