02.05.1836 | Establishment of the Royal Industrial School Chemnitz (14 students); education is taught in three major subjects: Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Agriculture |
09.10.1862 | Change of designation to Royal Higher Industrial School (187 students); to the school network belong additionally the Industrial Design School including 33 students, the School for Civil Engineering including 84 students and the Craftsmen School including 55 students |
11.06.1878 | The school network consisting on the Higher Industrial School, the School for Civil Engineering, the Craftsmen School and the School for Industrial Design is merged under the designation State Technical School; the Higher Industrial School is complemented by a Department for Civil Engineering |
Winter term 1882 | Beginning of teaching in Electrical Engineering; in the following time, the number of students surpasses 1.000 for the first time |
06.04.1892 | Establishment of a Department for Electrical Engineering at the Higher Industrial School and at the Craftsmen School |
05.05.1900 | In order to emphasize the special position between technical secondary schools and universities, the Higher Industrial School is awarded the designation Royal Industrial Academy |

12.04.1929 | Change of designation to State Academy of Technology; the Academy consists now on five departments: for Mechanical Engineering, for Chemical and Textile-chemical Engineering, for Architecture and Civil Engineering, for Electrical Engineering and for Textile Engineering |

March 1952 | Change of designation of the Polytechnic School to School for Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering, in September 1952 to School for Heavy Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering (1.226 students); Closure of the School in August 1955; the School for Chemistry was relocated at the School of Köthen, the School for Civil Engineering at the School of Görlitz |
08.10.1953 | Beginning of teaching at the University for Mechanical Engineering established in the building of the ancient Polytechnic School initiated by an industrial internship of one term (291 students) |

September 1997 | Termination of the education of primary school teachers and, from winter term 1999/2000 on, no more enrolment of students in the degree programs for teachers (concentration of teacher higher education at the University of Leipzig and the Technical University of Dresden) |

The cluster was funded by 34 million Euro for a period of five years within the Federal and States Excellence Initiative |
