New Appointment at the University

A new professor is appointed by the president as of 1 October 2019 –Prof. Dr. Janet Siegmund will lead the Professorship of Software Engineering

As of 1 October 2019, Prof. Dr. Janet Siegmund will lead the Professorship of Software Engineering.

Siegmund's teaching and research focuses on the area of empirical software engineering. In doing so, she observes the individual programming processes in order to understand them and, for example, to support novice programmers to overcome typical obstacles when learning to program or to support tailored support to professional programmers.

About: Prof. Dr. Janet Siegmund

Siegmund studied psychology and computer science at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. She graduated with a diploma in both subjects. Afterwards, her work focused on the intersection between psychology and computer science – she examined how the understanding of programming can be measured and improved. She received her doctorate in 2012.

In 2013 she managed the Chair of Software Engineering in Magdeburg, and later moved to the University of Passau, where she is heading the ZD.B-funded junior research group PICCARD.
