The TU Christmas Market Opens Its Doors

On 6 December 2018, TU Chemnitz opens their Christmas Market at the Orangerie to all – and the Chemistry Christmas Lecture starts at 15:30

Together with members of the TU community, graduates and citizens of the region will continue a cherished tradition at Chemnitz University of Technology and celebrate the pre-Christmas season. On 6 December 2018, at the forecourt and in the foyer of the Orangerie building at Reichenhainer Straße 90, the TU Christmas Market will open for a day. In the true style of a traditional Advent Market, visitors can enjoy a colorful program from 12:00 until 18:30. The TU Big Band and the University Choir will be on hand for musical accompaniment during the day. In addition, the choir of the campus kindergarten, “Krabbelkäfer”, will be making a grand appearance. The smaller guests of the Christmas Market can also look forward to a row of handicrafts, as well as a play area. Also, St. Nicholas will make a stop at the university, and he will have a few surprises in his luggage! And 3,500 gift bags are waiting for their future owners.

Various student initiatives and institutions will be on hand at the Christmas Market to promote themselves and offer information. Along these lines, the insurance provider AOK will invite you to have a “winter vitality check”. Those interested can register between now and 3 December, on the Christmas Market homepage. In addition, for the first time, a flea market will be participating in the festivities, which is a good opportunity to find a special gift for someone. Studentenwerk Chemnitz-Zwickau, among others, invites you to partake in Christmas treats and mulled wine.

There is something else offered for those who are thirsty, but for knowledge rather than drink: those interested can attend the Chemistry Christmas Lecture. From 15:30 until 17:00 Prof. Dr. Heinrich Lang and his team will be in room N115 of the Orangerie, delivering their lecture, titled “Fire and Smoke – Chemical Customs”. The largest lecture hall on campus will definitely be crackling and smoking.

Of note regarding the flea market: If you want to sell something at the flea market, you should register by 30 November at the following address: https://www.tu-chemnitz.de/tu/veranstaltungen/weihnachtsmarkt/anmeldung.php.  Homemade products such as soaps, candles, and crafts that are sewn or knitted, among others, are gladly welcomed.  A stall fee of 10 Euros will be charged.
