Two Silver Medals at the International German Open Water Swimming Championships

Successful "Partner University of Top Sports": Alexander Grätz swam to second place twice in Mölln School Lake

From June 23 to 25, 2022, the International German Open Water Swimming Championships took place in Mölln. Alexander Grätz, who studies mechanical engineering at Chemnitz University of Technology, achieved silver twice at the event. Thus, the young man competing for the Chemnitz Swimming Club swam the Olympic distance of ten kilometers after leading for a long time with a time of 1:54:58.09, narrowly missing the winning time (1:54:57.60) of Noah Lerch (SSG Günzburg-Leipheim). For Grätz it was the first medal in the open class at national championships.

Together with Julia Ackermann and Jonas Kusche (both SC Chemnitz) he also won the runner-up title in the 3 x 1.25 kilometer mixed relay of the open class with a time of 43:04.44.

Background: Chemnitz University of Technology is a "Partner University of Top Sports"

Combining studies and sports is a challenge for many athletes at the highest level. With the initiative "Partner University of Top Sports", Chemnitz University of Technology, in cooperation with the Olympic Training Center Chemnitz/Dresden and the German University Sports Federation (adh), offers top athletes many opportunities to balance their academic and athletic careers - for example, through a flexible schedule, individually coordinated submission and examination dates, and the introduction of vacation semesters as "championship semesters".
