"Laufend gegen Krebs" Run Postponed – Digital Race Starting 13 May

The run on the sports field at Chemnitz University of Technology has to be postponed from May until autumn - organizers invite you on a virtual run for a good cause starting 13 May 2020

In view of the current situation surrounding the SARS-CoV-2 virus (coronavirus), the ninth edition of "Laufend gegen Krebs" (Running Against Cancer), which was planned for 27 May 2020 on the sports field at Chemnitz University of Technology, cannot take place in the usual manner. The organisation team has therefore decided to postpone it until 15 October. "We regret this and hope that even in a golden autumn we will be able to welcome numerous participants on the course," said Dr. Ralf Porzig, Managing Director of the Sächsische Krebsgesellschaft e. V. (Saxon Cancer Society). "We have also set up a virtual run. This means that from 13 May onwards, participants can run individually for four weeks for a good cause.”

The organizers’ idea is that the athletes record their own individual training in the city, in the forest, at the lake, or at another favorite place and publish it on the website of "Laufend gegen Krebs." They can then document the route they have run with GPS data, a screenshot, or a link. You can also run, jog, and walk as a team or as an individual participant. A voluntary donation for the projects of the Sächsische Krebsgesellschaft e. V. rounds off the charity campaign. However, the participants do not have to do without an evaluation: The recorded distance is converted into "rounds" of 400 metres, and at the end the best in various categories are again determined. All proceeds will go to projects for cancer patients in Chemnitz and Saxony.

"It would be nice if many members and relatives as well as graduates of our university, together with their families and friends, would take part in this virtual run and hopefully also in the sports event on the university sports field in autumn, in order to support this good cause,” says Kristin Röhr, head of the Centre for Sports and Health Promotion (ZfSG) at Chemnitz University of Technology. In addition to the ZfSG, the Chair of Sports Medicine/Sports Biology at the Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Chemnitz University of Technology is also one of the organisers of "Laufend gegen Krebs".
