TUC Language Certificate
Background
The increasing internationalisation at all levels as well as cross-border company mergers and intercultural co-operation have a profound impact on higher education studies and course contents.
In order to take this international dimension into account, the Foreign Language Centre at Chemnitz University of Technology not only offers standard modules as part of the compulsory language programme which forms part of many Bachelor's and Master's degree courses, but offers in addition the TUC Language Certificate and the TUC Specialist Language Certificate, attesting to achievement in the following languages:
- English
- French
- Italian
- Polish
- Russian
- Spanish
- Czech.
The courses taken/credits earned as part of the compulsory language programme form the prerequisite for admission to a certificate examination and the award of a certificate.
Aims of the programme
Taking the certificate examination is a voluntary and additional endeavour on the part of the student, beyond the compulsory language programme. The certificate documents above-average linguistic and intercultural competences certified by a university and thus demonstrates, for example in an application for employment, a flexibility on the part of the student that goes beyond purely professional qualifications.
The certificate attests to the student's ability to cope with everyday professional situations with specialised awareness both linguistically and with knowledge of international customs.
In terms of standardisation, the certificate programme is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
