University Committees
Senate and Extended Senate
The Senate and the Extended Senate are central committees of the university. All member groups are represented in both, while university professors hold the majority in each. The student body sends three representatives to the Senate and seven representatives to the Extended Senate.
According to Section 85 of the Saxon Higher Education Act, the Senate's responsibilities include:
- Adopting university regulations
- Electing and dismissing Vice-Rectors
- Proposing appointments of members of the University Council
- Establishing principles for the evaluation of teaching
According to Section 86 of the Saxon Higher Education Act, the Extended Senate is responsible, among other things, for electing and dismissing the Rector and for adopting and amending the basic regulations of Chemnitz University of Technology.
Committee for Teaching and Studies and Committee for Research and the Promotion of Early-Career Researchers
These committees are standing committees of the Senate. They support the Senate in fundamental decisions and advise in particular on topics that extend beyond individual faculties.
- Decisions of fundamental importance in matters concerning the promotion of early-career researchers
- Decisions of fundamental importance in matters of teaching and research, insofar as more than one faculty is affected
University Election Committee
At the request of the Chancellor, the University Election Committee sets election dates and decides on election appeals.
Student Council
Each faculty student council sends two to five representatives to the Student Council, depending on its size. The FSR HSW has four seats. The Student Council represents the interests of all students at Chemnitz University of Technology.
According to Section 26 paragraph 1 of the Saxon Higher Education Act, its responsibilities include:
- Representing university-political, internal university, social, and cultural interests
- Supporting students' economic and social self-help
- Promoting voluntary student sports
- Maintaining national and international student relations
- Promoting political education and civic responsibility

Student Body Election Committee
The Student Body Election Committee consists of five student members as well as an election officer and a deputy. It is appointed by the Student Council, supervises and organizes the election, and decides on election appeals.
Faculty Council
The Faculty Council of the HSW faculty consists of eleven members: seven university professors, two academic staff members, two students, and one other staff member. It is responsible for fundamental matters of teaching and research at the faculty.
According to Section 93 of the Saxon Higher Education Act, its responsibilities include:
- Adopting study and examination regulations
- Planning the range of study programs
- Proposing structural and development plans
- Ensuring and carrying out subject-specific study advising

Study Committee
The Study Committee supports the Dean of Studies in organizing study operations. It deals with questions concerning study and examination regulations as well as the quality of teaching.
According to Section 96 paragraph 3 of the Saxon Higher Education Act, the Study Committee must be heard before the Faculty Council makes decisions on study matters. It may develop proposals for the further development of the range of study programs.
Examination Board
Each degree program has an examination board. It usually consists of three professors and three students. The examination board ensures compliance with the examination regulations and decides in cases of doubt and exceptions.
