Language requirements

Linguistic Requirements - Language Courses

It is recommended that Incoming ERASMUS students have sufficient German language skills before they begin their studies in Chemnitz. When registering at the International Students' Office of Chemnitz University of Technology, the student will be asked to provide proof of his/her German language proficiency. The following certificates are acknowledged:

  • the "Zentrale Oberstufenprüfung" (ZOP) of the Goethe Institute
  • the "Kleines Deutsches Sprachdiplom" of the Goethe Institute
  • any language proficiency certificate of an equal level (at least senior high school / "A-level") from a recognized (scientific) institution
  • the DSH certificate, which is taken at Chemnitz University of Technology.

To prepare for the DSH examination, students have the possibility to take an intensive language course before the beginning of each semester. It is recommended that ERASMUS students have the necessary German language skills before they come to Chemnitz to be able to pass the DSH, and to follow classes. ERASMUS students who wish to further their language skills can enrol in a two week intensive course at the end of September, or at the end of March. In addition, a language laboratory and a video laboratory are available for independent study.
