Chair of Forming and Joining at the Tube in Düsseldorf

From April 15 to 19, 2024, the world's most important trade fair for the tube and tube processing industry, the "Tube", will take place in Düsseldorf. The Chair of Forming and Joining will be exhibiting there together with the company ATG Gröditz. The main areas of research in the field of tube production will be on display. These include roll forming, HFI longitudinal seam welding and heat treatment in tube production as well as active media forming and incremental tube necking. We look forward to your visit, interesting contacts and good technical discussions."

>Final event of the reProTools project

On Tuesday, 16.01.2024, the final event took place at the project partner SHB Stahl- und Hartgusswerk Bösdorf GmbH after four years of cooperation in the joint project "Identification of energy- and resource-efficient process chains for the production of thermo-mechanically stressed tools using a holistic evaluation method". The project partners a.i.m. GmbH, Bernd Flach Präzisionstechnik GmbH, Erich Schmutzler & Frank Schmutzler GbR, Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V, Gesenkschmiede Schneider GmbH, SHB Stahl- und Hartgusswerk Bösdorf GmbH, TRUMPF Laser- und Systemtechnik GmbH, WSM Weber Schweißmaschinen GmbH and Professur UFF have been working together in recent years on the identification and development of innovative and effective manufacturing strategies for the production of thermo-mechanically highly stressed tools. The meeting was rounded off with a guided tour of the Bösdorf plant.

>Transnational consortium researches novel hydrogen stotage system

A promising approach to the efficient storage of hydrogen is currently being developed by an interdisciplinary team of Chemnitz researchers in collaboration with colleagues from Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Their focus is on the development and implementation of innovative hydrogen storage solutions based on high entropy alloys.

The joint initiative unites scientists from the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS) in Kosice, the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (UWB), the company SVÙM and the Chair of Forming and Joining (UFF). Under the experienced leadership of Prof. Karel Saksl (SAS) and Prof. Ludmila Kucerova, extensive expertise in the field of metal hydride storage is contributed. The project is part of the EU-funded M-Era.Net project "H2MobilHydride" and aims to improve the capacity as well as the kinetic properties of hydrogen uptake and release by novel compositions of high entropy alloys. Special attention is given to the investigation of the influence of the processing of these alloys on the storage capacity. The UFF professorship aims to increase the storage capacity by means of targeted forming of defect structures in the metal lattice. In this way, it makes a significant contribution to the optimization of metal hydride storage systems.

>H2OOPLA project started

The kick-off meeting for the cetPartnership project took place on 27.09.2023. Researchers from the Czech Republic, Italy and Germany are working together to analyze the impact of hydrogen, taking into account the structural condition of infrastructure and storage tanks. This measure is co-financed from tax revenue on the basis of the budget approved by the Saxon state parliament.
