Professorship of General and Biopsychology
Motivation and emotion — these two concepts concern the question of the "why" and "what for" of our behavior. A particular focus of our work in this area is the development of motivation and emotion in childhood. To investigate these processes, we use experimental and explorative analyses of behavior, based on biopsychological methods and real-time location systems. The assessment of natural behavior in everyday settings is of particular importance to us. At the same time, we have been continuously conducting a longitudinal prevention project since 2009, in which mentors support the motivational and emotional development of children for a duration of one year each (Further information on the project is available at Huckepack Kinderförderung). For this purpose, we cooperate with numerous institutions of child and youth welfare in Chemnitz and Saxony. The project has received several awards, including the „Leuchtturm-Preis" (Lighthouse Prize) from the Ravensburger Stiftung. In the biopsychological field, we primarily focus on the areas of heart rate variability and sleep.
