Professorship of General and Biopsychology

Motivation and emotion — these two concepts concern the question of the why and what for of our behavior. A particular focus of our work in this area is the development of motivation and emotion in childhood. To investigate these processes, we use experimental and explorative analyses of behavior, for example using biopsychological methods and real-time location systems. The assessment of natural behavior in everyday settings is particularly important to us. At the same time, we have been continuously conducting a longitudinal prevention project since 2009, in which mentors support the motivational and emotional development of children for a duration of one year each (further information about the project is available at the Huckepack Kinderförderung). To this end, we cooperate with numerous child and youth welfare institutions in Chemnitz and Saxony. The project has received multiple awards, including the „Lighthouse Prize" from the Ravensburger Foundation. In the biopsychological field, we primarily focus on the areas of heart rate variability and sleep.
