New venue for 3rd GKT Symposium
The Third International Symposium Plastic-Slide-Chains and Tribology in Conveyor Systems was held on the 11th and 12th April 2017. This time the event took place in the venue Pentagon3 in the centre of Chemnitz. With an increased number of 92 participants from 9 countries, topics about plastic chain conveyors remain of great interest and importance in industry and science.
In 14 lectures and 6 posters, research results, developments and applications were presented. It was shown, that application fields and specific requirements for plastic chain conveyors are very versatile. In order to face these challenges, new materials and design, but also hybrid transport chains and modern production methods were presented.
Improvements in friction and wear behaviour as well as reliability of conveying systems play an important role. In this context, reproducible and comparable test methods are significant in order to determine reliable tribological and mechanical properties of materials and chains.
A significant progress has also been made in calculation and dimensioning of conveyor systems. For example, methods are developed to predict friction temperatures and also chain vibrations in conveyor systems. In addition, a new approach for simulating the behaviour of products moving in a throng was presented.
Plenty chances for interdisciplinary discussions as well as personal encounters between the participants were used during conference breaks and at the evening event. Positive feedback of guests shows a great interest in this event as a regularly meeting place of research and industry. Thanks to all speakers and participants. The research team Traction Mechanisms and Tribology is looking forward to the next event.
