Prof. Dr. Anna Amelina: MIKOWA - Forschungsplattform Migration, Konflikt und sozialer Wandel
Since its foundation in 2017, the MIKOWA research platform has developed into a venue for scientific discourse and theory-practice discussions. The focus is on application-oriented and fundamental theoretical analyses at the micro, meso and macro levels on:
* Conflicts surrounding migration, diversity and participation
* Conflicts surrounding migration and social inequality
* Conflicts caused by the mobilisation of (extreme) right-wing groups
* Mobility and migration in and from authoritarian states
* Regional structural change and social coexistence
The research platform is a joint project with Prof. Birgit Behrensen and Prof. Heike Radvan.

East Germany also has a history of migration: contract workers from the GDR, including Vietnam, Mozambique and Poland, loaded ships in Rostock, mined coal in Lusatia and built railway carriages in Halle. People came for training or one of the rare university places; others came as political emigrants.
From the 1990s onwards, they were followed by ethnic German repatriates, quota refugees and war refugees from Yugoslavia, and later from Syria and Afghanistan. Others, born in East Germany as children of binational couples, experienced what it meant to be different, even though they themselves did not experience migration.
Nevertheless, the role of migrants in East Germany is hardly ever discussed. Even in research, the discourse is dominated by West German immigration history. MigOst is a collaborative project of the TU Cottbus, the TU Dresden and the umbrella organisation of migrant organisations in East Germany (DaMOst).
With the MigOst project, we want to create opportunities for joint engagement with (our own) migration history. We want to make the participation of migrants in East Germany more visible and broaden the one-dimensional perspective of the majority society on migration, thus paving the way for more diverse (urban) histories.

Dr. Manuel Peters: „Bildung, Erinnerung und Zugehörigkeit im postkolonialen und postsozialistischen Raum - rassismuskritisch-dekoloniale Perspektiven“ (Habilitationsforschung) (2022-laufend)
In meiner kumulativ angelegten Habilitationsforschung untersuche ich die Verflechtung postkolonialer und postsozialistischer Gesellschafts- und Zugehörigkeitskonzepte und deren Machteffekte in unterschiedlichen Settings. Die untersuchten Settings reichen von der theoretischen Reflexion und rekonstruktiven Forschung im Kontext von Subjektivierungs- und Bildungsprozessen über institutionelle Praktiken und imaginative Geographien im Kontext von Migration / Mobilität und kollektiver Erinnerung. Eine rassismuskritisch informierte, post-normativ-normative bildungstheoretische Perspektive dient dabei der Theorisierung und reflexiven Befragung der Konzepte und untersuchten Verhältnisse. Die Fokussierung von Prozessen der Herstellung von Erinnerung und Nicht-so-Zugehörigkeit im postsozialistischen und postkolonialen Raum, also innerhalb relationaler Gesellschaftsprojekte, ist wesentliches verbindendes Element der einzelnen theoretischen und empirischen Untersuchungen.
