Description

In the first part of the course, the basic principles of linear continuum mechanics and material modeling are discussed. This is followed by an introduction into the linear finite element method (FEM), with a focus on the application of commercial FEM programs.

Content:

  • Tensor representations and algebra
  • Invariants, eigenvalues and eigenvectors
  • Stress and strain tensor
  • Rheological models, elasticity, viscoelasticity
  • Solution algorithm of linear FEM
  • Element types and numerical integration

Requirements for attendance:

  • At least two-semester course in engineering mechanics (statics, elastostatics).
