What needs to be done before you leave Chemnitz
Now your stay in Chemnitz is coming to an end. Before you return to your home institution, there are still some organizational aspects to take care of in Chemnitz. Please find in the following a compilation of the necessary steps.

In Germany, it is common for a tenancy agreement to be terminated 3 months before moving out. Please be sure to observe the notice period stated in your tenancy agreement.
If, at the beginning of your stay, you concluded the rental agreement only for the limited duration of your stay in Chemnitz, you do not need to terminate it separately.
If you have not concluded your German health insurance with an expiry date, please inform yourself in due time about the notice period.
Three months before the end of your stay in Germany should be a good orientation for the period of notice. Please contact the provider of your health insurance for more details.
Please de-register your residence before you leave Chemnitz. You can do this very easily at one of the Citizen Service Points of the City of Chemnitz. Please keep in mind that your de-registration can only be confirmed one week before your departure.
You will receive a de-registration confirmation from the Citizen Service Point, which proves that you have de-registered from your residence in Chemnitz. You will need this confirmation to close your bank account and in particular to unsubscribe from the license fee for radio and tv.
Before you leave Chemnitz, please close your German bank account. This is especially important if you pay a monthly account maintenance charge.
You can take this step immediately before your departure.
When you register a residence in Germany, you will be required to pay the monthly license fee for radio and tv. Before you leave Chemnitz, you must therefore cancel your registration for this license fee.

To de-register, you need the de-registration confirmation from the Citizen Service Point.
