573010 Image Understanding

You will learn the most important basics of image processing and image analysis. Additionally we examine the problems and challenges that we have to face when analizing audio-visual mediums (videos) in heterogeneous  datasets. In the exercises you will face the limits of this subject area. The lecture is suitable for the following courses of study:

578050 Media Encoding

You will learn about central aspects on the coding of media data. We focus on Compression techniques, file formats and streaming systems.  The lecture is suitable for the following courses of study:

BA / MA - Thesis

You can start your thesis at any time. Under the tab Topics for MA / BA - Thesis you can find all topics that our team has to offer. Of course, you can also provide your own topic. It has to fit in the field of study and has to be approved by the tutor.

If you need help finding the right topic, just contact us!

Procedure: Before you register your thesis you discuss the topic with an employee of the professorship or Jun.-Prof. Ritter himself. When a suitable topic has been found, you prepare a concept on you plan to tackle the topic in your thesis. This concept has to be presented in 10-15 min in front of the staff of the professorship. If the concept is approved, you can register and start working.

There is no fixed date for the start of your thesis. When you have chosen a topic just contact Jun.-Prof. Dr. Ritter or an employee of the professorship directly.

9100_B Bachelor - Thesis

Participants: Bachelor courses of the faculty of computer science

The module consists of the creation of a Bachelor Thesis with a given scientific topic, its written representation and a colloquium to defend it. The topic has to be in the field of computer science and is handed out to every student individually. With the thesis, students provide evidence that they are capable of solving a scientific task assignment, illustrate their approaches and interpretate the results in a written way and to present and defend them properly.

The modul consists of two exams, which both must be solved in order to complete the module:

  • Bachelor Thesis (length approx. 60 pages, 18 weeks of editing time)
  • ~ 45 min of oral examination (colloquium) (~ 30 min speech and ~ 15 min of discussion)

9100_M / M_03 Master - Thesis

Participants: Master courses of the faculty of computer science

The module consists of the creation and defense of a Master Thesis. The topic is given out to every student individually. In the Master Thesis and the consecutive defense the student proves the he is capable of solving a clearly limited, but challenging scientific task in a relatively short period of time and meet a given deadline.

The modul consists of two exams, which both must be solved in order to complete the module:

  • Master Thesis (length approx. 80 pages, 23 weeks of editing time)
  • ~ 45 min of oral examination (colloquium) (~ 30 min speech and ~ 15 min of discussion)

Practicals

All  practical courses are continously offered without any fixed dates. If you want to participate, just contact Jun.-Prof.Dr. Ritter or a member of his staff. For the team oriented practical it would be beneficial of you allready arranged yourself in small groups.

500290 Team Oriented Practical (2 SWS, 16 LP)

Participants: Bachelor Applied Computer Science, 5.&6.Semester

The module consists of a team oriented project. Students receive a complex (software) development task that which has to be solved as a team. The size of the team varies and is depending on the complexity of the assignment. .

To complete the module students have to submit a 10-15 paged report about the approach they took to solve the pracitical task and what success that approach provided. The team has 6 weeks to complete the task and write the report. 

500170 / M_02 Forschungspraktikum ( Research Internship) (6 Wochen, 15 P)

Participants: students of the 3rd master semester

The practical aims to teach students to work autonomously and continously over a long time on a scientifically relevant task. The "research seminar" hat given an overview on how scientific work is done properly, starting with the choice of a task, literature survey and ending with a well written report. This research intership /practical however focusses on the enduring, practical research work. 

To complete the module, students have to submit a 10-15 paged report. The practical is aimed to take up 6 weeks of work. 

522010 Praktikum Forschungsschwerpunkt Intelligente, multimediale Systeme (Internship focussing on intelligent multimedia systems) (6 SWS, 8 LP)

Participants: Bachelor Computer Science, 5. Semester

The students apply the basic theoretical knowledge they took away from the lessons and apply them in practical. They autonomously plan and realize a project in the scientific field of Intelligent Multimedia Systems. Tasks are assigned individually by the professorships, each focussing on their respective main area of study.

To complete the module, students have to submit an approx.10 paged report.

Seminars

We offer numerous topics for a Hauptseminar. Please contact Professor Ritter or one if his colleagues if you want to participate. You can also discuss your own topic with us.
