Topic

mobile The research project "Bidirectional Charging Management" is supposed to follow the predecessor projects "Managed Charging V2.0 and V3.0". It aims at developing and testing an intelligent and bidirectional charging management system including associated components for electric vehicles. In a holistic, user-centered approach, electric vehicles will be integrated into the German energy system. The intelligent interaction between electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and energy system ensures an improvement in grid stability and security of supply, while also maximizing the use of renewable energy. Therefore, partners from automotive industry, energy industry as well as science and research will identify, evaluate and demonstrate various bidirectional-charging applications.

The research group Cognitive & Engineering Psychology supports the user research within the project on behalf of BMW Group. To ensure a user-centered engineering process for designing a user-oriented system and user-friendly interfaces, we will perform:

  • state of the art literature review
  • contextual interviews & HMI workshop to identify user demands
  • prototyping studies (elaboration and evaluation of click dummies and app prototypes)
After the development phase, a comprehensive pilot operation will be launched in 2021 including 50 bidirectional-charging BMW i3s to demonstrate the customer benefits and value of the technology. The research group Cognitive & Engineering Psychology assists the research in:
  • developing the test design and survey instruments
  • data collection and analysis
