Matthias Wichmann is professor and holder of the professorship for Business Administration - Production Management at the Faculty of Economics of the Chemnitz University of Technology. After studying business informatics at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, he received his doctorate in 2013 at the Institute for Automotive Economics and Industrial Production (AIP) at the Technische Universität Braunschweig on "Order-based scheduling of continuous casting plants in the steel industry". From 2012 to 2019 he was head of the working group on "Energy- and resource-efficient production" and in 2020 he wrote his dissertation on "Energy- and resource-oriented management of industrial production systems". From October 2019 to September 2020 he represented the professorship for General Business Administration, in particular Resource Management at the Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg.

Matthias Wichmann was significantly involved in the acquisition and implementation of more than 13 publicly (DFG, EFRE, ...) and industrially funded research projects in cooperation with institutes and companies, including Salzgitter AG, ThyssenKrupp and Volkswagen AG. The results of his research have been published in internationally recognized scientific journals. He is a reviewer in leading journals (e.g. European Journal of Operational Research, OR Spectrum, International Journal of Productions Research, International Journal of Production Economics, Fuzzy Sets and Systems, Journal of Business Economics) and is involved in the organization of national and international conferences.

In research and teaching, Matthias Wichmann deals with chllenges of production and logistics management as well as their modeling and solution using quantitative approaches and methods of operations research. A major research focus of his work is on production management issues arising from the energy turnaround and increased digitalization.
