New DAAD scholarship program for PhD candidates

Apply for research stays abroad until 31 August 2020!

With Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates the DAAD offers young researchers who would like to spend a stay abroad during their doctorate a new, attractive funding instrument. The research stay abroad may last from one to 12 months and can be divided into several stays. This allows grantees to conduct research in several countries and at different host institutions. The highlight of this program: During the doctorate, two grants are even possible, which can last a total of 18 months.

Doctoral candidates who are seeking their doctoral degree at Chemnitz University of Technology and are formally accepted for a doctorate or who can prove that they have been awarded the dissertation topic can apply for funding. Funding is independent of the nationality of the applicants, although special conditions apply to international applicants.

The grant mainly comprises a monthly scholarship payment and a travel subsidy both depending on the host country. In addition, the scholarship holders receive benefits for health, accident and liability insurance as well as a monthly lump sum for research and conference costs. Further benefits are possible depending on the personal situation of the scholarship holder and the research project.

Anyone interested in this program can apply individually to the DAAD. The application deadline is 31 August 2020 for a scholarship starting in January 2021, and for this first application deadline no expert report by the supervisor recommendation is required.

The deadline for the next application round is 15 March 2021, but then the supervisor‘s recommendation must be included in the application documents.

The International Office has compiled detailed information on the requirements and, above all, the necessary application documents in this program on its website.
