Profile

The Chair of Cultural and Social Change focuses on cultural and social studies of the Iberian Peninsula in its linguistic diversity (Catalan, Galician, Portuguese and Spanish). In research and teaching we deal with the analysis of cultural representations in the Iberian context. All kinds of cultural artefacts, e.g. texts, movies, photographs, works of art, speeches etc. are considered adequate to visualize and understand cultural practices. Theories and methods from Linguistics, Literary Studies, Cultural Studies as well as Ethnology and History are applied to analyze and interpret such artefacts. Main research themes are: collective memory, migration, representations of collective identity, nationalisms in Spain, Iberian concepts of Europe, transcultural writing, political transformation.
