ActiveE

Project Partners:

Funding:

BMW AG

Duration

12/2011-05/2012

Topic

ActiveE

The project ActiveE builds on the projects „MINI E Berlin powered by Vattenfall“, „MINI E V2.0“ and „Managed Charging V2.0“. As in the previous projects electric vehicles should be evaluated regarding user acceptance and usability, whereas the usability assessment of certain sub-systems is of particular interest. The experimental vehicle is BMW ActiveE, the electronic conversion of the BMW 1 series.

The coordination and realization of the user study are the main tasks of Chemnitz University of Technology. Structured interviews and focus groups will be conducted with private users of the ActiveE. Additionally private users are surveyed via online questionnaire how they evaluate different technical systems in the vehicle. Main goal is to assess the user evaluation of relevant sub-systems to give recommendations for the design and layout of future electric vehicles.

Focus areas of the professorship of Cognitive & Engineering Psychology within the project ActiveE:

  • Coordination and realization of the user study
  • Assessment of user expectations, experience and behavior regarding electric mobility
  • Identification of strengths and drawbacks of electric vehicles
  • User research on additional services in the context of electric mobility
