Research

The Professorship of Social science of physical activity and health at the institute of Human Movement science and health at Chemnitz University of Technology is unique in the federal state of Saxony and neighbouring federal states.

The professorship's research work is orientated towards the professional paradigm of applied social science, according to which the scientific processing of a problem is by no means finished with the diagnosis of the problem. Only the development of a design of different courses of action and the implementation of research results in concrete measures will ensure that the problem diagnosis can make an effective contribution to solving the problem.

The research projects follow modern concepts of knowledge production, by addressing specific research questions within the interplay of physical activity, exercise and health in a problem-oriented and multidisciplinary manner.

Our research is consequently empirically oriented. The range of methods used in research projects extends from quantitative to qualitative study designs and their appropriate combination.

In general, primary data are generated for current problems, with the focus - in terms of knowledge transfer - on the practical application of research results.
