Distributed and Self-organizing Systems
Term   Summer
Course level   Graduate (Master)
CP (ECTS)   5
Course description   The module introduces the "Web and Cloud Phenomenon" and the development of distributed applications and systems. The constant and rapid change in requirements due to global competition for software solutions poses new challenges for technology, software development, and operation. In order to achieve organizational goals, IT systems must not only be adaptable, flexible, and integrative, but also behave in an elastic and self-organizing manner if possible. Modern software development therefore uses flexible development processes and employs a mix of service-oriented architectures, web applications and cloud infrastructures to develop software solutions. The software development of such solutions must take into account a variety of different aspects of distributed software in order to meet the requirements and basic quality criteria. The first of the module's three focal points therefore focuses on fundamental and modern software development processes from web engineering. In addition to the development process, another focus is on architectures, models, principles, protocols, technologies and tools as well as the evolution of the web application. Special attention is given to flexible and elastic software solutions. For this purpose, both technical solutions and corresponding elastic concepts are considered. The focus is on the various forms and possibilities of the public and private cloud, which represent the third focus of the module. In addition, relevant, current aspects and trends will be addressed.
