UNIVERS Announces the Summer and Winter School Grant 2021 – Call for Summer and Winter School in Chemnitz open until July 31

UNIVERS (German article) offers the first time a 10.000 Euro grant for the organization of summer and winter schools within the UNIVERS-network. The Summer and Winter Schools will help to connect researchers, lecturers, and students from the UNIVERS community. To be eligible for funding at least two researchers of two different UNIVERS universities from different countries have to be involved in the organization of the summer/winter school. Associated universities are Chemnitz University of Technologies, Bialystok University of Technology (Poland), University of Craiova (Romania), University of Girona (Spain), University of Lleida (Spain), University of Perpignan (France), Rēzekne Academy of Technology (Latvia) and University of Ruse (Bulgaria).

Taking place at Chemnitz University of Technology, the schools are open for all students and researchers within the UNIVERS network and financially supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). As a result of this first call for application, first Summer and Winter Schools are expected to take place in the 4. Quarter of 2021.

Interested researchers can apply with a short description of the content related goals and the planned format of the Summer/Winter School (no more than two pages). Additionally, an estimated number of students, a list of tentative lecturers and a preliminary budget is desired. Pease upload your application until July 31, 2021 here.

Remote or in Person – there are many Options

The summer and winter schools are planned to take place at Chemnitz University of Technology. However, the format of delivery the events depends on the general health situation in Germany and the coronavirus regulations in place at the time the event takes place. Teams of organizers should therefore consider alternatives for fully digitally delivered events. However, Remote participation should be an option for on- site events. Administrative support will be provided by Chemnitz University of Technology.

Funding and Funding Criteria: UNIVERS Supports Collaborative Engagement

Summer/Winter Schools can be funded up to 10.000 Euro. Depending the number of applications an additional demand may be granted. Eligible costs for reimbursement are travel and accommodation costs of students and lecturers to Chemnitz as well as software for remote and hybrid classes.

Key criteria to meet is, that the summer/winter school has to be organized by at least two researchers from two different UNIVERS universities (and countries). Additionally, the summer school must be open to students from all eight UNIVERS universities with a fair distribution among the students. The summer school has to be held in English or it has to be guaranteed that all students can participate in an appropriate manner and no one will be disadvantaged due to language barriers. For the 2021 call the Summer/Winter school must take place within 2021.

Events funded by the UNIVERS Summer and Winter School Fund 2021 are not limited to any specific topic. Submissions by interdisciplinary teams of researchers from a broad range of UNIVERS partners are encourage.

Background: UNIVERS

During the 3-year funding period the UNIVERS-Consortium strives for an increase of physical and virtual mobility for students as well as for staff of the associated universities. To reach the goal to establish “UNIVERS – the Cross-Border University” joint research activities, exchange programs of students and staff as well as ideas of a new study program and a joint digitalization strategy are in place. New methods and formats of collaboration and teaching will be tested and enrich existing academic structures.

UNIVERS Summer and Winter Schools are an inherent part of UNIVERS to strengthen the collaboration between the associated partners. Offering a blend of academic education and enrichment activities to strengthen the collaboration in teaching and research.
