Long Night of Postponed Deferred Course Term Papers Happens Again

The University Library assists students of Chemnitz University of Technology on March 9, 2023 in the elaboration of their course papers – for the first time, also bilingual coaching offers are provided

After a long break, the „Long Night of Postponed Course Papers“ takes place this year for the first time at the University Library of Chemnitz University of Technology (Straße der Nationen 33). It gets started on March 9, 2023, at 5:00 pm. The participation is complimentary and open to all students and doctoral candidates of Chemnitz University of Technology.

For ideal conditions for writing and researching, more than 700 workplaces in the library are at the disposal of the users. This offer also includes teamwork spaces as well as individual workplaces equipped with computers or connection options for your own laptops.

In addition, workshops are offered by experts from the faculties and the central institutions of Chemnitz University of Technology as well as from the Student Union Chemnitz-Zwickau and an external expert. Among them are offers on motivation, researching, advice and hints regarding the electronic preparation of the manuscript, career perspectives after studies as well as health and relaxation exercises.

Furthermore, there will be information booths in the foyer of the library building where participants may gather information with regard to topics like literature research, working methods, writing skills, EDP, and social and psychological aspects related to scientific work.

Many people and institutions of Chemnitz University of Technology were engaged in the organization of the “Long Night of Postponed Course Papers”. Among them the University Library, the Student Union Chemnitz-Zwickau, the Student Council of Chemnitz University of Technology, the faculty student representatives, the University Computer Center, the Methodical Competence Center of the Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences, the Entrepreneurs Network SAXEED, the Foreign Language Center, the Center for Young Scientists as well as the Center for Sports and Health Promotion were involved. In addition, the organizers were able to engage Dr. Peggy Jacob as external expert from Berlin to provide writing advice. She will explain strategies for dealing with so-called “procrastination” subsequent to an introduction by Tina Horlitz from the Student Union Chemnitz-Zwickau.

The Student Union will care for physical well-being with snacks and beverages.

Comprehensive program for perfect results – bilingual offers for the first time

From 7:00 pm on, the Center for Sports and Health Promotion offers a “movement break” every hour. At 7:30 pm, Britta Maskow, research assistant at the Methodical Competence Center, will give information and advice with regard to dealing with surveys in the field of empirical social research.

The subsequent workshops of the University Library at 8:00 pm and 8:30 pm will provide useful hints with regard to literature research and literature administration. Those presentations will be given for the first time in German and English.

In addition, coaching services for writing will be provided by the experts Dr. Burkhard Müller from the Foreign Language Center and Dr. Melanie Hühn from the Professorship of Intercultural Communication (holder: Prof. Dr. Heidrun Friese).

At 9:00 pm, Antje Schreiber from the University Computer Center gives tips on how to avoid frequent mistakes in LaTeX manuscripts.

At 9:30 pm, Dr. Susanne Schübel from the Entrepreneurs Network SAXEED will explain ways to become an entrepreneur during and after studies.

The period from 10:00 pm to 1:00 am will be exclusively dedicated to the elaboration of the course papers.
