Efficient drives for the energy transition in Germany

Prof. Dr. Thomas von Unwerth from Chemnitz University of Technology as expert in MDR documentary on the performance of hydrogen as an energy carrier of the future - Hydrogen symposium "FC³ Fuel Cell Conference Chemnitz" on 23rd and 24th of November 2021.

It is already clear that the use of fossil fuels is to be reduced in Germany: As things stand, the country wants to be climate-neutral by 2045, and emissions are already to be reduced by 65 percent by 2030 compared with 1990. To achieve this, one energy carrier is increasingly coming into focus: hydrogen. What it can and cannot do is the subject of the current documentary "Is hydrogen the coal of the future?" by MDR WISSEN. As one of the leading experts on hydrogen in Saxony, Prof. Dr. Thomas von Unwerth, holder of the Professorship Advanced Powertrains at Chemnitz University of Technology, classifies in particular the status of storage and compression processes and the fuel cell as a drive for the automobility of the future.

“FC³ Fuel Cell Conference Chemnitz”: Leading location in hydrogen research

The Chemnitz region is one of the leading locations for hydrogen research and will be one of the sites of the national innovation and technology center "Hydrogen Technology for Mobility Applications" once the "Hydrogen and Mobility Innovation Center" (HIC) has been established. In order to discuss current developments in research and transfer of hydrogen technology, experts will come together on 23rd and 24th of November 2021 at the “FC³ Fuel Cell Conference Chemnitz”.

The organizers of the international conference are HZwo e.V., Chemnitz University of Technology and the Fraunhofer Institute for Machine Tools and Forming Technology IWU. The conference will focus on specialist presentations from the fields of production, fuel cell drives, electrolysers, fuel cell components as well as keynote speeches from Hydrogen Europe, the National Organization Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NOW GmbH), BMW and Toyota, among others.
