Join the Chemnitz 2022 NMUN Delegation

Students of all faculties of Chemnitz University of Technology can apply to participate in the world's largest UN simulation (in April 2022) until October 29th, 2021 and take part in the online information event on October 22nd.

In November 2021, the project "UNI goes UNO" 2022 of the Chair of International Politics at Chemnitz University of Technologywill be launched again. Students of all disciplines have the opportunity to participate in the world's largest and most renowned simulation of the United Nations (National Model United Nations, NMUN) and practice shaping world politics. NMUN2021 took place online this year due to the Corona pandemic. Depending on the development of the pandemic in the United States, a delegation from Chemnitz University of Technologywill represent the university and an assigned country in New York or online. NMUN is an international simulation in which the work and functioning of the United Nations is realistically simulated by students. Since the end of World War II and the founding of the international organization, the simulation has traditionally taken place every spring in New York at the United Nations Headquarters. During the conference, students step into the role of diplomats and represent the political and economic interests of a country assigned to them.

Participants will have the chance to gain deep insights into the complex structures of the United Nations and learn how to deal with the daily challenges of international politics and diplomatic life. The project offers the opportunity to develop skills in negotiating, public speaking and gain experiences in the field of social and intercultural competencies. In recent years, there has always been the opportunity to discover the cosmopolitan cities of Washington, D.C., and New York during the excursion and to meet high-ranking personalities from politics, science and the business world at embassies, the World Bank, the United Nations, and many other organizations. This year, all the appointments took place online. Afterwards, the Chemnitz delegation took part in the NMUN conference and slipped into the role of diplomats for a few days.

Interested students can apply until October 29th, 2021. Depending on the faculty/course of study, it is also possible to obtain a certificate of achievement. The "junior diplomats" will receive an internationally recognized certificate after successful participation. We are looking for students with good general knowledge of and a high level of interest in political and economic issues. Basic requirements are a good command of the English language and the motivation to work in a team with other students from November 2021 until June 2022. Initially, the preparation will take place online exclusively. On the 20th of October starting at 6.30pm (18.30), an information event will be organized serving the purpose of presenting the project and answering questions regarding the possible participation.

Delegations from Chemnitz have been participating in NMUN since 2004 and Chemnitz University of Technology is the only Saxon university that meets this challenge year after year. In the past, the delegations from Chemnitz represented the following countries: Macedonia, Georgia, Estonia, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Namibia, Ukraine, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Libya, Mali, Chad, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Republic of Senegal and most recently the Republic of Angola.
