Experimental Vehicle Carai 2 (VW Touran)

The Carai 2 was acquired two years after the purchase of the first concept vehicle (formerly Carai 1), and both vehicles are VW Tourans (see image on the left). This became necessary as more and more projects involving Car-to-X communication were being carried out. This additional Carai is primarily used for international research projects.

The Carai 2 is equipped with camera systems for vehicle environment detection. Due to varying visibility conditions and requirements, different types of cameras are used: cameras for visible light and near-infrared cameras for low visibility situations. Furthermore, a GPS system is used for highly accurate localization.
