From the University to the Private Sector, and Back Again

Dr. Benny Liebold is the new head of the International Office at Chemnitz University of Technology

Since 16 March 2020, Dr. Benny Liebold has been in charge of the International Office (IUZ) at Chemnitz University of Technology. After studying media communication and receiving a doctorate in psychology from Chemnitz University of Technology, Liebold worked for a software development company in Chemnitz. Now, he is looking forward to his new job: “I am looking forward to contribute the experience I have gained in international research and project cooperation, both at the university and in the private sector to the IUZ,” says the new head of the IUZ. He would like to ask any interested members of Chemnitz University of Technology to contact him at any time with suggestions and ideas via e-mail at benny.liebold@iuz.tu-chemnitz.de

About: Dr. Benny Liebold

Benny Liebold completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Chemnitz University of Technology in the area of media and communication research, with a focus on media psychology. He then received his doctorate at Chemnitz University of Technology in the area of psychology, as a part of the “CrossWorlds” interdisciplinary Research Training Group (DFG). While at the university, Liebold took on numerous organisational tasks, from advising students to conceptualising and revising study documents. Through this, he was able to gain deep insights into university processes. Most recently, Liebold supported Prof. Dr. Georg Jahn, Chair of the Professorship of Applied Geropsychology and Cawognition, in the coordination of an application on behalf of Chemnitz University of Technology as a part of the German Federal and State Excellence Initiative. Some of the ideas and concepts that were developed within this framework are now being researched interdisciplinarily in the “Hybrid Societies” DFG Collaborative Research Centre. He then switched gears and worked as a user experience designer for a Chemnitz software development company focusing on artificial intelligence in retail. At the same time, Liebold continued to collaborate with international researchers and published as an independent researcher.
