Start-Ups compete

Three Start-Ups from Chemnitz University want to succeed against 64 other companies in Saxony for the 2017 futureSAX Idea Award on August 28, 2017

In total, 67 Saxon Start-Ups and projects were submitted into the 2017 futureSAX Idea competition. Among the ten teams nominated for the final round are three Start-Ups from the Chemnitz University of Technology that have been supported by the entrepreneurial network SAXEED. The award ceremony will take place during the futureSAX innovation conference in Dresden on August 28, 2017. A total purse of thirty thousand euros are to be awarded along with the presentation of an additional audience prize.

One of the nominated Start-Ups is “NAVENTIK GmbH”. The company has developed a software-based localization technology that meets the strict requirements for individual localization in highly automated and autonomous driving scenarios by using high-resolution maps. The start-up team “Pi Rope” researched and developed in the field of textile spokes for lightweight bicycle rims. “SCOREFAB” impressed the jury with their App providing music enthusiasts with digitally displayed sheet music partitions.

In addition to the three aforementioned teams, two teams have been selected out of Chemnitz for the audience award contest category. The entrepreneurial team “bowbike” is working on the development of an ultra-lightweight bicycle carbon fiber frame and wants to revolutionize the market with their Bowbike. During an EXIST Business Start-Up grant project, “VisVintage” developed software for transportation companies that visualizes scheduling disturbances and subsequent problems with prioritization in order to efficiently provide just-in-time solutions. The team was awarded with the first prize in the scientific category in this year’s SAXEED idea competition.

“We are very pleased to see three SAXEED teams from several different disciplines in the final round. This shows the diversity of academic entrepreneurship: Successful ideas have emerged in the broad spectrum from computer and sports sciences to music. We are confident that all three projects will further enjoy success in their further endeavors and wish them all the best for the competition!”, says Markus Braun, director of the entrepreneurial network SAXEED offices in Chemnitz.

Background:

According to the “Gründungsradar 2016”, the Chemnitz University of Technology is the best entrepreneurial university of all state-owned universities in Saxony with regard to Start-Ups. Furthermore, Chemnitz ranks among the Top 10 entrepreneurial universities of medium-sized universities in Germany. This is the conclusion of a survey conducted on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft in cooperation with the Heinz Nixdorf Foundation.
