In our group we try to connect transition metal complex fragments in a fashion, that they are forced to interact with each other:

Tetrasubstituted biphenyls as ligands for transition metal complexes

Tetraheterometallischer
Komplex

Transition metal complexes on biphenyl basis are used in catalysis most often because of their axial chirality. We want to use this structural motif as bridging unit, for functional connection of several transition metal complex fragments. The transition metals shall then "feel" each other either through electronic or allosteric interaction. In this way the change of the oxidation state in the right complex fragment (green to blue) should affect the left one to change its oxidation state as well (black to red), as the intermediate state (blue/black) is unfavorable.
