Superparamagnetic Fe3O4-Nanoparticle Arrays Coated with PEGylated-Dendrimers. 2,5-Diferrocenyl 5-membered heterocycles allow stepwise oxidation from the orange coloured neutral species (Fe(II)/Fe(II)) via the dark green mixed valent mono-cationic compound (Fe(II)(Fe(III)) to the appropriate dark violet dicationic system (Fe(III)/Fe(III). Within the mixed valent complex intermetallic communication between the two redox active termini occurs.
