Name:

Chloe Newton-Mann

Why did you choose the University of Chemnitz?:

To see whether this would be an option for a post doc or future research position as well as to experience and learn about how an international university worked. I also wanted to offer my skills and knowledge of impact testing and modelling to the sport engineering team in Chemnitz aiding PhD and masters students with projects during my stay.

Which aspects of your stay in Chemnitz do you think have been most beneficial to your career development?:

DGiving a guest lecture on my PhD project to students and academics was very beneficial to my development, providing me with some great feedback on my work. Also having the opportunity to work on numerous different projects during my stay aided in my career development and mentoring skills.

Please describe your current role:

I am in the final stages of my PhD entitled “Finite Element Modelling of Snowboard Wrist Protectors” at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. My research has developed finite element models for predicting the impact protection of snowboard wrist protectors.

What is your favourite memory of Chemnitz?:

The team away day which included rafting down a river, having a picnic and then hiking back. This was such a great day where I got the chance to get to know the team more and also see some lovely German scenery.

What are your future plans and ambitions?:

My career aspiration is to aid an athlete to achieve success, whether through equipment enhancement, injury prevention or improvements in technique. On completion of my PhD my plan is to transition to work within the Sports Engineering industry with the possibility of returning back to academia in the future.
